How Casting and Bookings Work on Voquent - Voquent

Voquent is a non-exclusive casting agency and audio production company specialising in localisation.

We offer a full voice over production service and provide our clients with project management, casting, translation, subtitling, audio production and editing services.

There is no obligation to pay to join Voquent; we are not a P2P site. We manage our projects end to end, including client relationships.

In short, Voquent won’t restrict you from using other platforms!

How do I find work on Voquent?

One of our core missions is to stop the endless cycle of auditioning for jobs. We have designed Voquent.com around this concept – with the implementation of our powerful search engine – for demo searches, the heart of Voquent’s casting system.

Demo search is the primary way that casting agents use the website. It allows clients, and our team, to quickly audition relevant samples from voice artists who fit their casting brief. Uploading a wide variety of demos based around your specialisations as a voice talent is core to being cast on Voquent. Being found and shortlisted through your collection of demos and reels is essential – doing away with the status quo of actively auditioning constantly to jobs you are statistically unlikely to secure.

Faster casting – without auditions

Endlessly auditioning for jobs with a low rate of success can be truly exhausting. Working for countless hours auditioning for highly competitive gigs can dishearten even the most hopeful voice talent. This is before contending with the fact that the majority of this is unpaid work!

Clients want to find a voice that matches their brief as quickly and painlessly as possible. Sifting through countless auditions can make this process all the more difficult, as well as devalue the talent as they must submit audio content gratis.

Through experience, we find that most clients are happy to make a booking without an audition if they can hear a demo that is similar to what they are currently producing.

With this in mind, we designed our unique casting system to reduce the amount of needless communication and time required to gather relevant demos from the voice talent on our books. The sheer speed of casting and variety of voices on offer make up for the lack of tailor-made auditions immensely – streamlining the casting process for voices and producers alike.

This helps us to secure work and, in most cases, entirely removes the need for voice artists to audition!

How do we do this

Demo samples are effectively pre-recorded auditions for prospective buyers to consider. Each sample is tagged with searchable terms making it super-easy for customers to find relevant demo material from voice actors who fit the casting brief.

Searches can be broad or very specific. Each demo has some specific vocal characteristics, Tone, Style, Nativity, Language, Accent, Age, Gender, Pitch, and Medium. All demos that meet the search criteria are arranged in a grid or list with our signature play bar at the bottom of the page, enabling fast auditioning of many samples from different voice actors from one page. It’s really as simple as playing demos and picking out talent that matches the brief.

On Voquent, your demos are the key to attracting work offers!

You need to add samples before you are visible in casting searches, and we find that the voices who get booked regularly tend to be those with the most content on their profile. Profiles with a wide variety of appropriately tagged demos outperform those without.

When you register with Voquent, you’ll be able to upload 45 demos, and we recommend adding as many as possible. If you have a personal website, you can increase your demo sample count by providing us with a link from the website to your Voquent profile page.

A verified account or one with 15 approved demos uploaded will gain access to reels – here, a talent can upload up to 6 reels to their Voquent profile.

Remember: Every demo is another opportunity to be discovered, and a diverse portfolio of demos will increase your visibility and chances of being booked. For more information on optimising your demos and profile page, please refer to our guide on how to optimise your Voquent profile

What happens when I get shortlisted?

If your samples are shortlisted or a client selects you, one of our producers will be in touch via email to discuss the project, check your availability and agree on rates. You are not obligated to accept a work offer from us, and the fee is open to negotiation. We do not take a commission from the agreed price.

Once a fee has been agreed upon, we will confirm the time and date of the recording session. If you don’t have a home studio or the client wants to record at a particular location, our team will arrange this for you.

Home Studio Verification

If it’s the first time we have booked a job with you, and you are recording at home, we need to verify the quality of your Studio. The production coordinator managing the project will ask for a test recording and help you to resolve any issues before the recording commences.

If you are looking to get verification sorted as soon as possible, no fear! We have a fast-track process available for our voice talent that don’t want to wait until after their first job to reap the benefits of verification.

The Recording Session

When a client directs a recording session, we will set up a Zoom meeting and invite all parties to join. Don’t worry if you haven’t used Zoom in a recording session before. Our production coordinators will walk you through this when verifying your home studio. Some clients will be happy with a short briefing call before the session. You can specify on your profile page whether or not you allow live direction. We recommend that you do!

Once the session is finished, you don’t need to edit or process the audio. Just send us the preferred takes, and we will do the rest!

When you are booked for a project, it is Voquent that is hiring you, and we facilitate payment of your fee within a few days of receiving the recording and your invoice. We can pay you in any country and currency by direct bank transfer or PayPal.

(Please note that Voquent is not liable for any fees taken by intermediaries or your financial provider, but we will cover any payments taken by our bank.)
