About Voice Actor Styles

When researching the best voice actor for your project, an excellent place to start is reviewing the various voice actor styles we categorise here at Voquent.

Voice actor style refers to the overall aesthetic of the vocal performance. Not to be confused with the intended delivery mediums, the reading style will often closely correlate to where the voice audio is finally published. But it isn't always the case.

In total, we have identified 13 distinct voice acting styles that incorporate almost all of the project types we handle here at Voquent.  The styles page links are all listed above.

What makes one style different from another is the delivery of the script. Each of the 13 style options is unique because they use various vocal characteristics, including 12 voice tones and multiple traits depending on the voice acting lines' purpose.

Choosing the most appropriate style

For the Comedy style, you may want a light/high pitch and conversational or comedic tone, for example. Comedy pacing is a hugely important aspect of comedic timing, as different jokes will land more effectively if delivered faster versus slower. Getting this right is just as important to a successful joke as the actual content!

In contrast, the Character style may vary the pitch and voice type depending on the age, background, and motivations the voice actor is portraying. A good example is an adult voice actor voicing a child, requiring the voice actor to speak in a high pitch. The Character style may employ a range of tones such as the angry tone, sad tone, or even the unorthodox tone for things like fantasy characters.
