          Voquent Help & FAQ Center

Welcome to the Voquent Help Center. Whether you are a brand or producer looking to bring a project to life, or a professional voice actor eager to expand your global reach, we are here to support your workflow. Choose between our flexible Direct Booking platform or our fully Managed Services production team.

Client FAQsDirect Booking & Managed Services

What is the difference between Direct Booking and Managed Services?

Direct Booking allows you to search our database, contact professional voice actors directly, negotiate your own terms, and manage the recording process independently. Managed Services give you access to our professional production team who manage the entire project lifecycle, working with an agreed budget for custom casting and session direction to professional audio engineering and delivery.

Are there any middleman or platform commission fees when booking talent directly?

No. When you use our Direct Booking option, you collaborate and contract directly with the talent, giving you streamlined, transparent communication and flexible terms and rate arrangements.

Are there any hidden platform fees or subscription costs for clients?

No. Creating an account and searching our talent roster is entirely free for clients. You only pay when you contract a talent directly or approve a quote for a managed project.

How do I know which option fits my budget?

Direct Booking is generally more cost-effective if you have internal audio editing resources, a clear script, and the time to manage scheduling and communication yourself.

Managed Services are ideal if your project requires guaranteed broadcast-quality post-production, directed live sessions, or compliance with specific corporate billing and credit terms, saving your internal team valuable hours.

What fees are involved in Managed Services?

Managed Services utilize an all-inclusive, project-based quote. Because our production team handles the entire process, including custom casting, professional script translation/adaptation, live studio direction, audio engineering, and rigorous quality control, the pricing reflects a complete end-to-end production fee.

Can I get a custom quote for a Managed Service project?

Yes. Simply submit your project details, script length, and usage rights (e.g., commercial, corporate, social media) through our project portal, and our production team will provide a comprehensive, transparent quote tailored to your exact needs.

Can I switch from a Direct booking to a Managed service mid-project?

Absolutely. If you start a project directly with a voice actor but later realize you need a wider range of options, professional audio post-production, script editing, or scheduled, directed sessions, our managed service team can seamlessly step in to assist. Please note that transitioning to a managed service mid-project will involve an adjustment to our comprehensive, project-based fee structure to accommodate the additional production and engineering scope.

How do commercial usage rights and licensing fees affect the cost?

Voice-over costs depend heavily on where and how long your audio will be used (e.g., internal training vs. a global television campaign).

Direct Booking: Talent usually outlines their usage fees and rate cards clearly on their profile. You negotiate these licensing terms directly with them based on your media buy (broadcast, digital, social, internal).

Managed Services: Our production quotes factor in the exact usage rights, buyouts, and distribution channels you require from the start, ensuring you are fully licensed and legally compliant without needing to negotiate individual contracts.

What is the difference between standard usage and commercial/broadcast buyouts?

Internal / Non-Broadcast: Typically lower cost, covering things like e-learning modules, internal corporate videos, or pitch decks.

Paid Digital / Commercial / Broadcast: Higher tiers that apply when the voice is used in paid ads (YouTube, Meta, Spotify), TV, radio, or major cinema campaigns. These require extended licensing fees to compensate the talent for commercial exposure.

Video Games & Interactive Media: Character and narrator roles for gaming projects typically incur a specialized buyout fee. These rates vary by talent and scale dynamically with the scope and reach of the production, meaning AAA titles carry a different licensing investment than smaller indie releases.

Do I have to pay extra for revisions or retakes?

Direct Booking: Revision policies and agreements (such as one round of minor pickups included vs. a fee for script changes) are set by the individual talent in their terms. Be sure to clarify revision requirements and policies before booking.

Managed Services: Minor pick-ups resulting from talent error are included unless otherwise specified in a quote. If the script changes after the recording session has taken place, our team will provide a transparent quote for re-recording time.

How are payments and contracts handled on Direct Bookings?

When booking talent directly, you contract and settle payments directly with the voice actor based on the terms you mutually agree upon. Because you work independently, you establish the payment schedule (such as deposits or milestone payments) directly with the talent.

Voice Actor FAQsDirect Pro & work opportunities

I'm an actor, how do I get voice-over jobs on Voquent?

If you are a performer looking to land voice-over work, the process is designed to showcase your talent to global brands across both our Managed Services and Direct Booking pathways:

          1. Sign Up & Create a Free Profile: Register your profile by detailing your experience, accents, and vocal characteristics to gain access to global opportunities.
          2. Upload and Approve Your First Demo: To get started, you must upload at least one professional audio demo and have it approved by our team. This makes your profile active and eligible to be considered for client projects.
          3. Choose Your Path (Free Tier vs. Direct Pro):
Free Tier: Maintain a standard profile, get discovered, receive direct client enquiries, and be booked for our Managed Service productions, all while keeping 100% of your earnings commission-free on direct bookings.
Direct Pro Upgrade: Once your initial demo is approved, you can upgrade to a yearly Direct Pro subscription to unlock up to 65 demo slots, priority search placement across every accent and language, and active job board bidding.
          4. Land Jobs: Regardless of whether you stay on the free tier or upgrade, you can be contacted and booked directly by clients or selected by our team for Managed Services. Direct Pro simply supercharges your visibility with priority placement and active job board access.

          What is Voquent Direct Pro?

Direct Pro is our premium subscription tier for professional voice actors. It maximizes your earning potential by giving you priority search placement for all your demos, the ability to respond directly to open casting calls, and a range of other benefits. Explore Direct Pro.

How does Direct Pro improve my search ranking and visibility?

While free-tier voice actors can still be discovered and directly invited to projects by clients, upgrading to Direct Pro gives you maximum exposure and a competitive edge:

Priority Search Placement: Your up to 65 professional demos are prioritized in search results above free-tier accounts, ensuring global brands and buyers hear your best work first across every language and accent you offer.

Direct Job Board Access: Beyond passive invitations, Direct Pro allows you to actively browse and respond directly to open client briefs to pitch your voice to decision-makers.

Can I still get work from both direct enquiries and managed services if I don't subscribe to Direct Pro?

Yes. You can maintain a standard free profile to be discovered, directly invited to projects by clients, and booked for our Managed Service productions. Best of all, any direct bookings you receive from clients (even on the free tier) are 100% commission-free. Upgrading to Direct Pro is entirely optional; it is designed for talent who want to supercharge their visibility with priority search rankings for up to 65 demos and unlock direct job board submissions.

Do I pay commission on direct bookings if I am on the free tier?

No! Whether you are a Free tier user who gets invited directly by a client or a Direct Pro subscriber, all direct bookings are 100% commission-free. You negotiate and keep everything you earn on direct projects. The Direct Pro subscription simply unlocks active job board bidding, priority search placement for all 65 of your demos, and maximum visibility, not commission-free status, which you always keep on direct work.

General Industry FAQsVoice-over, dubbing & services

          What is voice-over?

Voice-over is a specialized form of vocal performance that involves adding a recorded voice track to various types of media, such as radio, television, film, video games, commercials, audiobooks, and more. This voice track serves as a narrative or informational layer over the primary content, providing context, emotion, or guidance.

          Key mediums:

          • Advertising: Enhancing brand awareness through commercials, social media promos, and digital ads.
          • Corporate: Training videos, presentations, and internal communications.
          • Education: E-learning modules, explainer videos, and instructional guides.
          • Entertainment: Audiobooks, animation, video games, and films.
          • Customer Service: IVR systems, on-hold messages, and customer guides.

A professionally produced human voice-over adds an artistic touch to your project and helps create a strong emotional connection with your audience, making your content more unique, memorable, and engaging.

What is the difference between voice-over and narration?

Voice-Over: A broad term referring to any spoken word added to media (commercials, explainer videos, video games) to convey information or dialogue without appearing on screen.

Narration: A specific type of voice-over that tells a story or provides commentary throughout content like documentaries, audiobooks, or guided tours.

          What is dubbing?

Dubbing is the process of replacing the original voice-over track of a video with a new one in a different language. This technique is essential for making media content accessible to audiences who speak different languages, allowing them to enjoy the content as if it were created in their native tongue.

Challenges addressed: Translation accuracy, synchronization, and cultural adaptation. Voquent provides top-tier managed dubbing services utilizing the world's best dubbing artists to deliver a flawless final product.

          Why is voice-over localization important?

In today's globalized world, delivering content that resonates with diverse audiences is crucial. Voice-over localization ensures that your media, whether a film, video, or commercial, can be understood and appreciated by viewers around the world. It includes dubbing, subtitling, script/graphic translation, and precise vocal performance.

How much does voice-over dubbing cost?

At Voquent, we offer four distinct managed dubbing packages (minimum order of 60 minutes):

          • Starter ($20+/min): Affordable multi-language audio tracks for social media (1–2 dubbing artists; transcription/translation).

See Dubbing Costs Explained for the full breakdown.

Costs depend on the broadcast medium, campaign territory and duration, voice talent tier, and recording/editing time. See our Pricing page for more.

          What is voice-over translation?

Voice-over translation is the process of adapting spoken media content into another language through a meticulous cycle of transcription, translation, native-talent casting, professional recording, and final audio integration.
