A Christmas Calendar: 25 Days of Voquent Voices - Voquent

Does your voice have what it takes to be part of our Christmas Advent Calendar?

What is
Voquent's Christmas Advent Calendar?
It's 25
days of festivity where we will be posting your demos to our social channels if you knock our fuzzy red stockings off.

Each day we have a new Christmassy character for you to impersonate. Some are classics,
others were found in the depths of yuletide folklore, and some are simply unexpected.

Keep it traditional or create something new. Use the character's quotes or go off-script. What you say and how you sound is up to you.

Our favourite
Demo for each day will be posted to Instagram & our Christmas Characters page,
increasing your visibility on Voquent and getting everyone else into the festive spirit.

Don't worry. We increased your Demo limit to make room for all of these character Demos. You've now got 45 demos to play with and 65 if you link to us from your website. There is plenty of space for as many characters as you would like to try out.

You MUST submit your Demo with the character's unique tag (e.g. Snow White). The tag is confirmation that you have entered the competition. We have included buttons that take you straight to the upload screen for your chosen character!

If you are a Voquent pro – you can skip to the characters.

(Tip:
Mulled wine is NOT an effective way to warm up your voice.)

How to edit your Demo's tag

You can edit the tags on Demos that you have already uploaded by clicking on the pencil icon at the top right of the Demo.

This will open a pop-up window where you can make the changes. You can also give your Demo a unique name, edit the three characteristics or upload an image from here.

Once you're finished editing, remember to click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom right of the screen. If you wish to edit any of the core attributes, such as tone or style, you must delete the Demo and upload a replacement.

Snow White

Before Disney made the film, Snow White was a 19th-century German
fairy tale published in Grimms'
Fairy Tales
. Snow White has been hiding
in the woods with the dwarfs as the fairest in the land. She has an

innocent voice, a polite demeanour, and a love of nature.

“Come on, perk up. Won't you
smile for me?”

“Why, there's seven little
chairs! Must be seven little children.”

“Anyone could see that the Prince
was charming. The only one for me.”

UPLOAD SNOW WHITE DEMO

Ebenezer Scrooge

A character who is simultaneously the most and least Christmassy figure there is. Scrooge may have hated the season once upon a time, but after
a night of Christmas certified existential terror, he came to see the joy of the holidays. The Scrooge we know is a spiteful man with unceasing selfishness and disregard; just kind of Scrooge-like, ya know?

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present,
and the Future.”

“Men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead. But if the courses
are departed from, the ends will change.”

UPLOAD SCROOGE DEMO

Christmas Elf

The Christmas Elves spend all year building toys, feeding reindeer, baking cookies, and assisting
Santa. They must have plenty of energy to get all this work done. With their high-pitched voices, the elves love to spread Christmas cheer.

“This place reminds me of Santa's
Workshop! Except it smells like mushrooms, and everyone looks like they want to
hurt me.”

“The best way to spread Christmas
cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”

“I thought maybe we could make
gingerbread houses, and eat cookie dough, and go ice skating, and maybe even
hold hands.”

UPLOAD CHRISTMAS ELF DEMO

Jack Frost

The personification of winter itself, Jack Frost brings the snow, ice, and freezing cold. Much like winter, Jack can be good, bad, or neutral; the character has found a resurgence in modern times, often shown to be a
mischievous trickster.

“You don't want me. You're all hard work and deadlines! I'm… snowballs and fun times. I'm not a Guardian.”

“Oh ya… I loved being thrown in a sack and tossed through a magic portal!
North: Oh, good! That was my
idea!”

“Do you stop believing in the moon just because the sun comes up?”

UPLOAD JACK FROST DEMO

Mrs Claus

The wife of Santa, Mrs
Claus, spends her time baking cookies and overseeing the elves while Santa is away. In her elderly age, Mrs Claus is kind, patient, and calm in comparison to her husband's frequent exuberance.

“Someone back home really needs me. Now, don't worry, I haven't forgotten. I still have presents for you
and the other kids.”

“When you look up at the evening sky, and you see a star. You'll know who I am thinking of.”

“He who
has no Christmas in
his heart will never find Christmas under a tree.”

UPLOAD MRS CLAUS DEMO

Befana

A traditional Christmas figure throughout Italy, the legend of Befana is one of tragedy and hope. Linked with typical Christianity, Befana lost her child and now seeks the next Messiah, leaving gifts for good children hoping they may be the one. She is an old lady, often shown to be a hag, but she is kind and giving. Looks aren't everything.

“But you! You, were bad.
Very bad. I only have coal for you (Laughs maniacally)”

“I, the Befana, travelled
through the night with these trinkets. Snow and frost and a cruel North wind
did their utmost to stall me. Yes, my bones may creak, but my will is like that
knotted oak. It will not falter.”

UPLOAD BEFANA DEMO

John McClane

Bruce Willis might have declared that Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, but we don't believe him. This film is one of the greatest action films of all time, and as the franchise's main protagonist, John
McClane is a wisecracking, no-nonsense New York City cop. Yippee-Ki-Yay!

“Yeah. I got invited to a
Christmas party by mistake. Who knew?”

“I promise I will never even think about going up in a tall building again. Oh, God. Please don't let me die.”

“Nine million terrorists in the
world, and I gotta kill one with smaller feet than my sister.”

UPLOAD JOHN MCCLANE DEMO

The Ghost of Christmas Past

We are all products of our experiences, crafted and shaped into who we are today. The Ghost of Christmas Past is an ephemeral spirit of precisely that. He transports Scrooge to key moments of his life to show him the errors of his ways for a chance at redemption. The Ghost is a being of duality, light and dark; young and old; strength and softness. The Ghost takes the form of many,
continually shifting between tones, states, and demeanours.

“I am the Ghost of Christmas
Past. Look upon me. I am your past.”

“I told you these were shadows of the things that have been. That they are what they are, do not blame
me!”

UPLOAD GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST DEMO

The Grinch

A mean one, a heel,
as cuddly as a cactus, as charming as an eel, a rotten banana with a greasy black peel. The Grinch is a fuzzy green, grumpy, Christmas hating creature who lives above Whoville with his dog Max, created by Dr Seuss.

“It came without ribbons, it came
without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags.”

“Now you listen to me, young
lady! Even if we're horribly mangled, there'll be no sad faces on Christmas.”

“The avarice never ends! 'I want golf clubs. I want diamonds. I want a
pony so I can ride it twice, get bored and sell it to make glue.' Look, I don't
wanna make waves, but this whole Christmas season is…”

UPLOAD GRINCH DEMO

Cindy Lou Who

What is Christmas if not a time to do away with differences and build bridges?
While the Whos of Whoville and the Grinch were happy to live apart, Cindy Lou
Who warmed the heart of the Green Christmas Grinch and helped him see the
wonder of the season. She is a soft-spoken child, with innocence and wonder
aplenty.

“Don't forget the Grinch. I
know he's mean and hairy and smelly. His hands might be cold and clammy, but I
think he's actually kinda… sweet.”

“I'm glad he took our presents.
You can't hurt Christmas, Mr Mayor, because it isn't about the… the gifts or
the contest or the fancy lights. That's what Cindy's been trying to tell
everyone… and me. I don't need anything more for Christmas than this right
here: my family.”

UPLOAD CINDY LOU WHO DEMO

Jack
Skellington

Created by Tim
Burton, Jack Skellington is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town and scares
people with the other Halloween spirits each year. He is a gentleman and keeps
everyone's best interests to heart, but he is naive with handing out his trust
and barely notices Sally's love for him.

“That's Not My Christmas! My
Christmas Is Filled With Laughter And Joy. And I, Jack, The Pump-Kin King,
Have Grown So Tired Of The Same Old Thing.”

“What Have I Done? What Have
I Done? How Could I Be So Blind? All Is Lost. Where Was I? Spoiled All! Spoiled
All!”

“There's Children Throwing
Snowballs, Instead Of Throwing Heads, They're Busy Building Toys And Absolutely
No One's Dead.”

UPLOAD JACK SKELLINGTON DEMO

Colonel Sanders

The KFC figurehead
may be unexpected – however, he does fit the Christmas season! It's a
Japanese tradition to buy Kentucky Fried Chicken, to the point where they even
reserve it ahead of time. So, with Christmas KFC buckets adorned with
the Colonel's face, he makes the cut for a Christmas icon. The Colonel has a
southern U.S. accent, native to the state – you guessed it – Kentucky. Who
wudda thunk it?

“There's no reason
to be the richest man in the cemetery. You can't do any business from there.”

“One has to
remember that every failure can be a stepping stone to something better.”

“I'm too drunk to
taste this chicken.”

UPLOAD COLONEL SANDERS DEMO

Sally

Sally was built by
Dr Finklestein before she met Jack Skellington. Compassionate and
sweet-tempered, Sally always shows her love for Jack even when he isn't paying
attention. Sally can also be strong-willed when poisoning the Doctor or
threatening The Oogie Boogie Man.

“Oh… it's Jack…
Look at him – he's so alive… So happy…. He's so filled with confidence he could
teach the wolves how to howl.”

“The worst is just
around the bend, and does he notice my feelings for him? And will he see how
much he means to me? I think it's not to be.”

“Taking over
Christmas is no way to fill the gaping hole you feel inside.”

UPLOAD SALLY DEMO

Christmas Fairy

Each Christmas this fairy, or sometimes characterised as an angel, joins Santa
on his rounds as he delivers presents to the world's children. She sprinkles
the delivered gifts with dust to make each one divine. A gentle spirit of
Christmas, she has a plucky attitude and a soul of happiness.

“Once in a while,
right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale.”

“Christmas waves a
magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more
beautiful.”

“The fairy on the
Christmas tree is looking quite forlorn. Her wand is broken and splinted: Her
wings, all tattered and torn. Her dress of stiff crepe paper was once a bright
sky blue, but time has bleached it all away. It's now a much paler hue.”

UPLOAD CHRISTMAS FAIRY DEMO

Kevin
McCallister

As the youngest in
his family, six-year-old Kevin McCallister is used to some bullying and torment
from his family. Mischievous and cunning, Kevin can always think of the perfect
plan to catch home invaders in a booby trap.

“Did I burn down the joint? I
don't think so. I was making ornaments out of fishhook.”

“This is ridiculous. Only a wimp
would be hiding under a bed. And I can't be a wimp. I'm the man of the house.”

“I took a shower, washing every
body part with actual soap — including all my major crevices, including in
between my toes and in my belly button, which I never did before but sort of
enjoyed.”

UPLOAD KEVIN MCCALLISTER DEMO

Snegurochka (Snow Girl)

From origins unknown, Snegurochka has been a mainstay of Russian folklore since
the 19th century. There are many stories of the maiden, but a
favourite is that she is given the ability to love, her heart warms and melts
her body of snow. She is a gentle, curious being who holds a child-like view of
the world.

“Halloo! I'm little
snow girl, rolled from spring and snow and browned by the spring sun. My
girlfriends asked my grandparents to let me go berry-picking with them in the
for
est, and now they've left me all alone!”

“How it hurts and
how heavy is my heart. The flower that Lel threw to me, it weighs like a rock.
The little shepherd ran away with the other girls who laugh and speak better
than me and I'm crying with rage because he leaves me here alone.”

UPLOAD SNEGUROCHKA DEMO

Krampus

Originating in
German Christmas folklore, on the 5th December (Krampus night) each year, this
half-goat half-demon visits the bad children to punish them whilst Santa gives
the good children walnuts and chocolate. He beats the children with sticks,
eats them, or takes them back to hell.

“Your dreams are your spirit,
your soul and without them you are dead. You must guard your dreams always.
Always. Lest someone steal them away from you. I know what it is to have your
dreams stolen. I know what it is to be dead. Guard your dreams. Always guard
your dreams.”

“I am not a devil,
fool. Do you ever wonder why you seek the Devil with such vigour? I shall tell
you. Because you cannot face your own wickedness.”

UPLOAD KRAMPUS DEMO

Holle, Bride of Wotan

Frau Holle is a German fairy tale figure devised by the Brothers Grimm. Frau
Holle lives in a realm inside of a well, where she rewards the good with riches
and gold, and the bad with a grisly demise. She is an old lady, living in a
cottage who offers each the chance to prove they are worthy.

“What are you
afraid of my dear child? Live with me and if you do the housework you will have
everything. Make sure to make my bed well and shake it thoroughly so that the
feathers fly like snow would fall in the upper world.”

“It's good that you
are homesick. It shows that you are a nice and faithful girl. You have served
me well so I will take you back to the upper world.”

UPLOAD HOLLE DEMO

Jólakötturinn
(The Christmas Cat)

Pet of Grýla,
this ginormous fluffy cat isn't as cute as it looks and hates happy children.
From Icelandic mythology, Jólakötturinn would hunt down anyone who
did not receive new clothes at Christmas as it was tradition to give new
clothes to people that work hard.

“I opened my
glaring eyes wide, the two of them glowing bright. It took a very brave man to
look straight into them. My whiskers, sharp as bristles, my back arched up
high. And the claws of my hairy paws were a terrible sight. I gave a wave of my
strong tail, I jumped, and I clawed, and I hissed. Sometimes up in the valley, sometimes
down by the shore. I roamed at large, hungry, and evil in the freezing Yule
snow.”

“Everyone knew I
hunted men, not mice.”

UPLOAD CHRISTMAS CAT DEMO

Grýla

An Icelandic figure
distilled from Norse mythology, a giantess who begs parents to hand over their
disobedient children for her dinner. She can detect children at all times but
comes down from the mountains at Christmas to eat. She is considered to
be a hideous, inhuman monster.

“Lads, bring the
baby to me.”

“I creep towards
human settlements looking for children who make easy targets. With my long
arms, I drag them into the snow and
vanish into the storm. By the time anyone
realises the child is missing, it'll already be too late.”

UPLOAD GRYLA DEMO

The
Karakoncolos

This Bogeyman from
Turkish Mythology stands on street corners asking riddles to passers-by. If
your answer to The Karakoncolos' riddle doesn't include the word “black”, he
will kill you with one single blow. Setting fire to silk or thread is the only
way to make him leave.

“What is black when
it's clean and white when it's dirty?”

“What is black and
smells like white paint?”

UPLOAD KARAKONCOLOS DEMO

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer

Has a very shiny
nose, and if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows! We all know the
story of Rudolph, bullied for being different until he realised what made him
different was also what made him special. He used his nose to save Christmas
and guide Santa. He is a youthful and inspirational character.

“Jingle, jingle, jingle, all
the way!”

“Aren't you going to laugh
at my nose, too? It's terrible… and it's different from everybody
else's.”

UPLOAD RUDOLPH DEMO

Santa Claus

Santa Claus (AKA,
Saint Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas) needs no introduction. Known
for being Jolly, Santa prepares for Christmas day all year, waiting to bring
gifts to all good children and adding the naughty ones to his infamous list.

“Ho, ho, ho. Merry
Christmas! And a happy new year!”

“I spend months picking out
the perfect present for everyone. You know the only thing I get in return?
Mince pies, gah!”

“From what I see now, that
will cut through the murkiest storm they can dish up. What I'm trying to say
is, Rudolph, with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?”

UPLOAD SANTA CLAUS DEMO

Doctor Who

We all have a
favourite and Doctor Who is intrinsically tied to British Christmas time! The
Doctor is a Timelord who travels time and space in his Time And Relative
Dimension In Space (TARDIS for short – it looks like a police box). There
are over 13 incarnations of this character that span back to the 1960s.

“Naturally
occurring Christmas trees! How cool is that!”

“It's not raining,
it's crying. The only force on earth that could drown the snow: a whole family
crying on Christmas eve.”

“You know what the
big problem is in telling fantasy and reality apart? They're both ridiculous.”

UPLOAD THE DOCTOR DEMO

Turkey

For a turkey,
nothing is more terrifying than Christmas. Hold on to your brothers and sisters
for as long as you can because the hungry families are coming, and they won't
be the only ones getting stuffed.

“What am I thankful
for this Christmas? Vegetarians.”

“All I'm saying is
give geese a chance!”

“I've got tons of
online followers and they all want to have me over for dinner! The farmer
unfriended me on Facebook though. I wonder why?”

UPLOAD TURKEY DEMO

There we have it, more Christmas characters than you can shake a cinnamon

stick at.

We can't wait to hear all your festive voice demos, whether they be angelic, jolly or on the creepier side of Christmas. Our team will pick one winner each day to post on Instagram.
